Year 7 mapping the surface
For their final project this year the Year 7 students developed ideas based on 'maps' to create circular clay slab pots. After building their forms, embellishing the surfaces with mark making techniques and using their understanding of colour mixing to glaze the bisqued pot ... these are the results. A great way to end a successful year, well done Year 7!
YEAR 7 different cultures
As an extension to their grotesque project the Year 7 students have looked at the work of different cultures and designed masks that are influenced by both their knowledge of grotesques and their research on another culture. Below are examples of their results.
Year 7 Grotesques
The Year 7 students have been busy this term studying the images of grotesques and gargoyles in order to create their own grotesque portraits. Working in charcoal and chalk pastel they have used tone, blending techniques and complementary colours to achieve the pieces you see below.
Year 8 facing heroes
Working in conjunction with the English Department student developed stories, storyboards and portraits for their 'super heroes'. In art, the students first developed their faces using an understanding of proportion and facial features and then they were transformed in to super heroes in order to create the double-sided portraits displayed below. During the same project, students produced images focused on individual facial features without worrying about perfect proportion these were completed by adding colourful geometric backgrounds.
Year 8 Colour & abstraction
Inspired by the work of Gillian Ayres, Sonia Delaunay, Michael Craig-Martin and Welsh artist Martyn Jones students have worked in a variety of media (oil pastel, modroc, collage and silk) to produce colourful imagery.
Year 9 graphic solutions
Designed as a cross curriculum project between history and art. These works reflect imagery and information on propaganda.
