In Art at St. Gerard's School we use a variety of software that allows students to develop their digital media skills. Many of the software options that we use are available to download so that the students can access these tools both at school and at home. A list and links to the software downloads are available below.
SCULPTRIS
Sculptris is a computer programme designed by
Pixologic (www.pixologic.com) that allows you to
create digital sculptures. By working on objects in 360o you can create a digital image of your
sculpture before creating it by hand.
This programme is also useful for designing characters, imagery
for other artistic processes and for game design.

GOOGLE SKETCHUP
Google SketchUp software is used and taught by the ICT department at St. Gerard's School, however, it is useful also in Art. It is most appropriately used for the development of imagery based on landscape, architecture and to capture the effects of perspective and scale.
GIMP
The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is an open source program that is freely distributed for the use of image manipulation, image composition and image creation. It is compatible with Mac, Windows and Linus operating systems.
Student use this software is a similar way to Photoshop (the design and interface is very similar!) for designing imagery, altering their own photographic images (lighting, filters, colour, etc.), and collating images to create compositions in drawing, painting, printmaking and photography.

INKSCAPE
Inkscape is an illustration and drawing programme, similar to Adobe illustrator. This programme is used in GCSE and A Level studies to help design imagery and to explore different colours, textures and options as student lead toward the development of their final pieces.
Inkscape (like GIMP) can also be used as a media to produce final work if student are particularly adept at working with their own imagery, layering imagery and creating a digital outcome.
