During December, the Chester Zoo will be hosting evening viewings of their magical large scale chinese lanterns. The lanterns depict the animals in the zoo and they look fabulous. This would be an excellent evening out over the christmas holiday.

Capturing the details of sporting events is always difficult, mainly because the subjects are always moving. Mr. Parry, Mrs. Roberts and I are always keen to see pictures of sporting events that you have taken. This photo (see left) of a French figure skating pair documents the moment she is spinning on his head as they move along the ice, background blurred and no hands! Perhaps these top sporting photos will help inspire you ... As part of 'The Big Draw' experience in October, the Year 7,8 and 9 students developed different aspects of the theme 'Draw Tomorrow'. Year 7 created their own 3-D paper buildings decorated in the style of the 'future homes'. Year 8 developed ideas from their project work on abstraction and considered how Hundertwasser would have drawn tomorrow. While, the Year 9 students worked on developing their perspective skills and designed the skyscrapers for tomorrow. This all culminated in a large display in the art room. The Year 8 students have just finished their sculptures for the project titled 'Forming Nature'. With an aim to 'create a sculpture based on natural form that explores the concept of abstraction' the students produced clay works that are both dynamic and skillful. Ideas were developed through drawing, computer design and sculpture. One example (see left) shows how the structure of an orchid can inspire a design. For more images see the 'forming nature' section in the gallery. |
